Chloromethane can be converted into ethanamine by following step of reactions -

(i) React Chloromethane with sodium metal ( Na ) , ethane is formed as a product .

(ii) React formed ethane with chlorine ( Cl ) in the presence of sunlight , ethyl chloride is formed .

(iii) React ethyl chloride with ammonia ( NH ) , ethanamine is formed .

The reaction in the first step is known as the Wurtz reaction
