Conversion of  toluene to carboxylic acid

It is a benzene ring containing methyl group .

Carboxylic acid

It is a compound that contain COO- group .

We can convert toulene to carboxylic acid by carrying out oxidation .

First we react toulene  with potassium per-magnate and heat it .

As a result, we obtain a intermediate  which on further hydrolysis in acidic medium give rise to benzoic acid .
