Answer:

Materials Required: Two ballons, a Y-shaped tube, a bell-jar, a rubber sheet, elastic bands, and a rubber cork with a hole in the center.

Procedure

Step 1: Insert the Y-shaped tube, along with a balloon on each of its fork, through the single-hole rubber cork. Now fix the cork on the mouth of the bell jar.

Step 2: Fix the rubber sheet at the bottom of the bell jar with the help of two Elastic Bands.

Step 3: Now, pull the rubber sheet downwards. Do you see any changes in the balloons?

Step 4: Release the rubber sheet and again note down your observations in regard to the shape of balloons.

Observation: When we pull down the rubber sheet the balloons inflate. When we release the rubber sheet such that it comes back to its original position, the balloons deflate.

Explanation: When we pull down the rubber sheet, there is an increase in the space inside the bell jar. This leads to a reduction in the air pressure inside the band thus air from outside rushes into the balloons. On the other hand, when we release the rubber sheet, the space inside the bell jar decreases, and the air pressure increases. This increased air pushes the air out of balloons resulting in their deflation.
