There are two ways by which you can know if the given sample of water is pure or polluted. They are -
1. pH
We know that pure water has a pH of 7. Take the given sample and dip a pH strip in it. There is a change in color of the strip. Now, observe the color at of the strip. Refer to the pH chart and if the color of the strip does not match with the color on the chart for 7 pH, that indicates the presence of impurities in the sample.
2. Boiling
We know that pure water has boiling point 100 degrees Celsius. Take the given sample and boil it. Keep recording the temperature by inserting a thermometer in the sample. Note the temperature at which the water starts changing it's state and becomes vapour. If the boiling temperature of the sample is not 100 degrees then there are impurities present in the sample.
