cubic and hexagonal close packed structures both have apacking factor of 0.74, consist of closely packed planes of atoms, and have a coordination number of 12. The difference between the fcc and hcp is the stacking sequence. .

⭐ In hexagonal close-packing , the third layer is same as the first layer.

→ This leads to a pattern of the type ABAB.

→ Example :- Mg , Zn

⭐ In the cubic close-packing , the fourth layer is as same as the first layer.

→ This leads to a pattern of type ABCABC.

→ Example :- Cu , Ag
