Externally it is diificult to distinguish between the solution and the compound. But by heating a small quantity of the given samples we can find the difference between them. The one which leaves some residue behind is the solution and the other  which evaporates uniformly without any residue is the compound.

Explanation:

A pure compound is defined as the substance in which same or different atoms chemically combine together in a fixed ratio by mass.

For example, CaCl_{2} is a pure compound and it is present in the ratio 1:2.

On the other hand, a solution is formed by mixing two different substances in any ratio. A solution consists of a solute and solvent.

Solute is present in smaller quantity as compared to a solvent in a solution.

For example, NaCl dissolved in water results in the formation of a solution.
