Explanation:

in this experiment alpha particle are used which passes through thin gold foil.

there were three observations:

  1. most of the particles passed without deflection ,which shows the large space in atom
  • some of the particles deflected , this is due presence of nucleus inbetween atom.
  • nucleus is made up of protons and neutron ,and the alpha particles are also of positive charge due to which repulsion occurs between alpha particles and nucleus.
  • only 2 alpha particle deflected from the centre of atom I.e nucleus.
