Place the iron piece in middle of the current carrying solenoid. iron get magnetised , this type of magnet is called electromagnet .
it can be tested by using a compass , when we bring compass near the electromagnet , compass shows deflection , so it is magnetised .

take a iron piece and rub a strong magnet on it it will be magnetics or pass electric current through it and to test it take it near iron fillings near it they will attract towards it this proves that iron piece is now magnitised.
