We can measure length using a broken ruler by the following way -

• Take the broken ruler and measure the length with the available readings of the scale.

• Note down the two readings which you get from the two ends of the taken object.

• Now, subtract the greater reading with the minor reading to get the actual length of the object.

Lower reading = 1 cm

Higher reading = 5 cm

So,the actual length = (5-1) = 4 cm.
