Given below is the method when you want to measure the density of wood:

• Take a graduated cylinder of proper capacity. Fill it with water up to a marked level.

• Tie a wooden block by a strong thread and immerse it completely in water. The block will displace water and the level of water will rise. Note the new position of water level.

• Find the difference of two positions of the water level to see the volume of wooden block immersed.

• Repeat the experiment thrice and calculate the mean of three observations.

  The calculations are given below Mean gravitational mass of the solid block,

w = w1+w2+w3/3= g.wt (by spring balance)

 Mean volume of the solid block by graduated cylinder

v = v1+v2+v3/3= ml(cm3).

 Mass of the object:

 It can be calculated with the density (D) of the given solid block with the calculated mean mass and volume.

 Mass of the solid, m = gravitational mass (w)*9.8/ g (environment)

(i) Mass of the solid (m) = ..................... g

(ii) Mean volume of the solid block (V) =...................cm3

(iii) Density (D) of the solid block = Mass / Volume =...................... g/cm3
