You can obtain butan-2-ol from propanal using the below method;

By adding the carbon first on the chemical mixture and using the Grignard reaction, you can achieve it. but, there is also an easy way to do it.

By treating the propanal with the K2Cr2O7, and H3O+, you will get the carboxy acid.

Treat that acid with the SOCl2 to get the propanoyl chloride.

Now, treat with ( CH3)2CuLi in the ether and reduce with the NaBH4 in the methanol to get the butan-2-ol as output.
