By definition a saturated solution is a solution that contains as much solute as can dissolve in a given solvent at a given temperature.

To prepare a saturated solution of sugar just add sugar to water and stir the solution. Continue the process of adding sugar until the added sugar crystals do not dissolve by stirring. You have reached the point where additional sugar can’t be dissolved any longer by water.

To make the saturated solution of sugar a supersaturated solution you can increase the temperature of the solution and add sugar to the solution. Continue adding the solute until the added sugar crystals do not dissolve any longer at this higher temperature.

Cool this mixture so that you will have a supersaturated solution of sugar and water.
