a))) Methane (CH4) can be obtained from methyl iodide (CH3I) by reduction with LiAlH4 or other hydride reducing agents. Ethane can be obtained by reduction of CH3I with Zn or other reducing metals - this is called the Wurtz reaction.

b))Acetone (a methyl ketone), in presence of alkali, reacts with iodine to form iodoform. When iodoform is heated with silver, acetylene is obtained which is compound B. Acetylene on hydration in presence H2SO4/Hg2+ forms vinyl alcohol which on tautomerism gives acetylene. This is compound C
