Air pressure or atmospheric pressure is the weight of air acting on a unit are of surface.Air exerts pressure in all directions.

Experiment to demonstrate Air pressure

Apparatus Required:Glass tumbler, water and card board.

Procedure :

Fill the glass tumbler completely with water.

Cover it with card board.

Note : There should not be air between water and card board.

Support the card board with you hand and invert the tumbler.Holding the glass tumbler gently, remove the hand.

Observation:

Cardboard does not fall because the air pressure is acting from all the direction..

Answer:

I'll prove this with a simple phenomenon of a sticking pad .

Explanation:

Why does it happen that a sticking pad sticks to the wall when we press it ...?

It is because..since air pressure remains equal in the atmosphere and between the sticking pad & the wall...and when we press it onto the wall, the air between wall and sticking pad rushes out so the pressure decreases...but since the pressure outside remains high as compared to inside...air exerts pressure on the sticking pad and hence forces it to get sticked to the wall.

Then it sticks to the wall...Simple right?
