Hello,

The simplest way to prove that air is needed for burning is the candle experiment. First Light a candle. We can see it burning normally. Then cover it with a glass lid. Now we can estimate that the candle is no more burning. Because for burning oxygen is a major content.

hi,

the following activity will help you prove that air is needed for burning.

materials required: candle, drinking glass and a lighter

to prove: air is required for burning

proof: place a candle on an even surface and light it. the candle is burning just right. now invert the drinking glass over it and observe.

observation: the candle goes off after a while when the drinking glass is inverted over it.

conclusion: the candle goes off because the supply of air is cut off for the candle to burn when the drinking glass is inverted over it. hence, it is conclued that air is needed for burning.
