To prove that a given salt is a Metal Carbonate, we will put it in an acid. ... Then we notice that a precipitate is formed which is CalciumCarbonate(CaCO3). Hence we conclude that the gas was Carbon Dioxide. When a Metal Carbonatereacts with an acid, Carbon Dioxide gas is one of the products formed.

deadsaw: but can you tell me if we pass the produce gas through lime water, what colour lime water will change? and thank you
Madhu7409: ok
Madhu7409: When carbon dioxide is passed through lime water, it turns milky or turbid due to the formation of calcium carbonate which is insoluble in water. However if excess carbon dioxide is allowed to pass, the turbidity disappears due to the formation of calcium bicarbonate which is solublein water.
deadsaw: thanks again
