By dissolving it in water. Salt will get completely dissolved while the sand particles will form the sediment. Salt can be extracted from the supernatant by evaporating it.

Salt dissolves in water. The salt crystals have molecules of Na+------Cl- at atomic level and hence disperse in the spaces of water molecules. But sand has larger and compact molecules that don't disperse in the spaces between water molecules. Hence, salt and sand can be separated by adding water. When water is added salt dissolves in water and can be filtered and separated from sand.
