DDT which stands for p,p'-dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane is prepared by heating chlorobenzene with chloral also known as 2,2,2-trichloroethanal in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid.

DDT is a white crystalline solid which is insoluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents. DDT is non-biodegradable which is generally used to manufacture contact insecticide.
