Answer: DDT which stands for p,p'-dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane is prepared by heating chlorobenzene with chloral also known as 2,2,2-trichloroethanal in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid. DDT is a white crystalline solid which is insoluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents.

Answer:

 SYNTHESIS OF DDT

In the existence of sulfuric acid, one mole of chloral with two moles of chlorobenzene together reacts to produce the DDT (Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane).

DDT is a colorless, tasteless and odorless chemical compound, in spite it is colorless it is virtually insoluble in water. To synthesize the DDT(Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane), chloral is fully dissolved in chlorobenzene and the solution under constant stirring.

During the phase of extraction, the blended mixture is combined with chipped ice, the crude DDT is filtered separately and washed with cold methanol to get DDT. Then the final product DDT is collected in a separate funnel.
