The carbon dioxide gas liberated can be tested by passing the gas which is evolved during reaction through lime water. If it turns milky, it assures that the gas produced during the reaction is carbon dioxide. The milkiness disappears when more carbon dioxide gas is passed through the lime water.(Lime water is also known as slaked lime or calcium hydroxide)
