1.a plant cell when placed in a hypertonic solution of sodium chloride will shrink but if placed in hypotonic solution it will swell up.
2.an animal cell when placed in a hypotonic solution will burst because its cell membrane is not as flexible as plant's cell wall.

Plant cell swells up when kept in hypotonic solution because it absorbs large amount of water in hypotonic solution such that the vacuole is completely filled with water but it does not burst due the presence of cell wall.


Animal cell also swells up but they burst due to absence of cell wall.
