A drill has a complimentary cutting surface which makes the drill helical in shape and the drill machine having both translatory and rotatory motion. Now if onle the rotatory motion was present then had to put extra force on the drill machine and it sometimes might not makes the holes as we want them to. This will happen because of the reduced efficiency of the drill machine on removal of the translatory motion.
