If I was placed in the same situation as Matilda. Instead of working hard for 10 years to repay the moneylenders. I would have already told the truth to Madame Forestier that I had lost the necklace due to so and so reasons . Since she is rich, she would tell me that it is fine as it was a fake necklace as it's cost was only five hundred francs.

So , there would be no need to buy the real necklace , live under gruesome conditions for ten years to repay the money lenders and can live peacefully for those ten years .
