1. Hydrochloric acid kills the germs. If it is not produced then these harmful substances would also get digested and affect the digestive system.
2. Hydrochloric acid also creates an acidic medium which helps to convert pepsinogen to pepsin which further on acts on proteins to form amino acids. So if it was not produced, proteins would not be broken down and our body parts couldn't have repaired themselves.
