If an amoeba is moved from hypo tonic solution to hyper tonic solution, the water will move out of the cell results in the plasmolysis of the cell. In simple words, the cell will shrink.

However, In freshwater, when water enters inside the amoeba, it swells the cell and when it is at the verge of bursting, contractile vacuoles takes the water out of the cell and maintain the structure.

Salt water is hypertonic as compared to the solution inside the Amoeba cell. When Amoeba is placed in salt water, it will lose water by exosmosis and will shrink. If it is agaiyplaced in a hypotonic solution it'll accept a lot of water and get expansion in the body size. Thus the contractile vacuole of a freshwater amoeba respond if the organism was placed in seawater.
