it depends upon the factory type and also the faculties . suppose factory releasees the harmful chemicals in river , not only the water life disturbed but also the agricultural activities which held downstream gets affected. which gets adverse effect on whole life cycle of river. which means that the farms which grows near that river having more harmful chemicals instead of nourishments. that's why some diseases like dirroea causes.
