The yellow colour of sodium chloridecrystals is due to metal excess defect. In this defect, the unpaired electrons get trapped in anion vacancies. These sites are called F-centres. The yellow colour results by excitation of these electrons when they absorb energy from the visible light falling on the crystals.

Explanation:
Answer : Yellow colour of NaCl is due to metal excess defect as some Cl- ions ( anions) leave their lattice sites and occupied by unpaired electronws. These sites are called F -centres. These electrons absorb energy from bisible reigon for exictation so that complementary colour is yellow .
