Ethanol can be converted to ethene by dehydration of ethanol in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid at 170 °C temperature. The reaction is named as dehydration reaction. (b) Propanol can be converted to propanoic acid by oxidation in the presence of alkaline potassium permanganate and heat.
