a) Ethanol can be converted to ethene in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid. It is called as dehydration reaction.
CH3-CH2-OH → (Concentrated H2SO4) CH2=CH2 + H2O

b) Ethanol can be converted into ethanoic acid by treating it with alkaline KMnO4 or acidified K2Cr2O7 and heating. Following is the chemical equation for the reaction
CH3-CH2-OH Alkaline KMn O 4 → CH3-COOH

Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here....

1) Ethanol to ethene
Process is Dehydration.
Conc.H2SO4 or alumina can be used as a dehydrating agent.
Reaction is:
C2H5OH ----conc.H2SO4----> C2H4 + H2O

2) Ethanol to ethanoic acid.
Ethanol is reacted with oxygen in presence of platinum at 300°C.
Reaction is:
C2H5OH + O2 ----Pt----> CH3COOH + H2O
Process is oxidation (direct).

Thanks....
