Rip Van Winkle was constantly nagged by his wife and therefore henpecked. But being the easy-going type that he was, he did not take it to heart. The reason why his wife nagged him was because, he was lazy and irresponsible most of the time. He was never fond of work, especially hard labour. However, he had a likeable side to him and everyone in the village loved him.

‘Rip Van Winkle’ is a story by American writer Washington Irving (1783 – 1859).
