how would you choose between two characteristics to be used for developing a hierarchy in classification
Answers
Answer:
For developing a hierarchy of classification, we choose the fundamental characteristics among several other characteristics. We need to look at the fact if given character is present in a small number of organisms or a larger number of organisms. By choosing the basic characteristic, we can make broad divisions in living organisms as the next level of characteristic is dependent on these. This goes on to form a hierarchy of characteristics.
Answer:
For classifying an organism in a hierarchical fashion, the most fundamental and visible character is first taken into consideration. For example- plants differ from animals in having chloroplast and lacking locomotion, lacking a cell wall.
But, only locomotion is considered as the most basic characteristic of classification. After choosing the fundamental, basic characteristic one can further classify the organism on the basis of the first feature chosen.
