for developing the characters to be used for developing a hierarchy in classification we can take the basic difference as well as basic characters which have the basic and important differences like cell structure, life style, habitats etc.
for example: in Kingdom monera the cell are prokaryotic and therefore it shows different cell structure and character.
in animalia the cell are eukaryotic and shows different cell structure and character.
