Physics, chemistry, biology:

Osmosis is the physical process in which solvent molecules pass through a semi permeable membrane to the side where the solute concentration is high.  The solvent molecules diffuse through the membrane to equalize the solute concentration on both sides of the membrane.  Osmosis is a natural process.

The pressure above the solution and in the solution impacts the osmosis process.  The solute particles cannot penetrate through the semi permeable membrane.  The pressure at which the solute, solvent, membrane are in equilibrium state is called osmosis pressure.  The osmosis process depends on the concentration of solute, pressure, temperature, solubility of solute etc.

Inside our human body  Osmosis plays an important role for transfer of oxygen to the cells and for the activities of metabolism.

Movement of solute particles from higher concentration to lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane is called osmosis.
