A computer is an electronic device that takes data as input, does some processing on the input by a sequence of steps (called an algorithm) as instructed and then generates an output.
That's how I define it.
Here's some information that you might find interesting.
The word computer has originated from the verb "to compute". However, we must remember that computing something (in English) is the same as calculating. Although most computers can do much more than than just calculating stuff, it is not wrong to consider a calculator a computer.
