How would you demonstrate that green plants release oxygen when exposed to light?

I would set up an
investigation, involving water plants (Elodea sp. works quite well). I would set up
three stoppered test tubes with the same amount of Elodea and water. One test
tube would be kept in dark cupboard, and the other two would be exposed to low
and high light intensity. I would then collect and test the gas present in each
test tube. I would do this by exposing the collected gas to a glowing splint. If
the splint ignites then the gas is oxygen.
