Aerobic respiration occurs in the cytoplasm and mitochondria in the presence of oxygen. It always releases Carbon dioxide and water as an end product. Aerobic respiration utilizes oxygen present in the cells. For example, If a person is performing strenuous physical activities, then the oxygen in the cells gets used up at a much faster rate, thereby, causing oxygen deficiency in the cells because almost entire oxygen was utilized

Materials: A big and a small beaker, a test tube, a cork with a hole, a U-shaped beaker, colored water, perforated water or wire mesh, germinating peas, soda lime and water.

Method:

  1. Place some soda lime at the bottom of the test tube.
  2. Fix the wire mesh a little soda lime and place the germeninating peas on the mesh or the perforated sheet so that they do not come in direct contact with the soda-lime.
  3. Set up the experiment. (The water bath helps to maintain the temperature and does not affect the outcome of the experiment)
  4. See what happens to the level of the colored watre in the seperate beaker.

Observation: The colored water starts moving upwards in the narrow tube after some time.

Inference: Soda lime removes CO2 from the air inside the test tube by absorbing it. As the peas respire, O2 is used up, and this pulls up the colored liquid.

Conclusion: Oxygen is required for aerobic respiration.
