Separating mixtures through magnet is only possible when there is an object which is attracted to a magnet. Let's say we have iron powder and salt mixture now to separate this we can use a magnet as it will attract all the iron powder leaving the salt behind. Why does the magnet attract all the iron powder? Because iron is a magnetic material.
