  • When sufficient gas gets collected, a glowing splinter will be introduced in the test tube, which will burst into flames. Inference: The splinter glows due the presence of oxygen in the test tube which proves that the gas collected in the test is released by hydrilla during photosynthesis.

Answer:

few twigs of hydrilla are taken and inserted into the funnel. 2. The funnel along with the hydrilla twigs is placed in a beaker filled with water. 3. A test tube is filled with water and it is inverted over the funnel.4. It is ensured that the level of water in the beaker is above the level of stem of the inverted funnel. 5. The entire setup is kept in sunlight for nearly 2 - 3 hours. 6. The other setup is arranged in dark. 7. The level of water is observed in the best tube.Observation : 1. After sometime small gas bubbles come out of the leaves of hydrilla. 2. We observe that air fills the test tube by lowering the water level. 3. The gas is tested with a glowing splinter. 4. The splinter burns brightly indicating that the gas accumulated is oxygen. 5. No gas formation is observed in the set kept in dark. Inference : By this experiment it is proved that hydrilla plant performed photosynthesis and released oxygen in the presence of sunlight.
