It is because after removing an electron from the outermost s orbital of sodium atom it attains neon gas configuration that’s noble gas configuration and for second ionisation energy it requires a lot energy to remove an electron from stable configuration it on removal of an electron from magnesium it attains noble gas configuration, so second ionisation energy of magnesium is less than sodium.
