The first effect of the absence of trees will be the decreased oxygen in the air. During photosynthesis, a process done in leaves of trees, along with plants, carbon dioxide, water, and energy from sunlight is transferred into energy for the plant, with the waste products being oxygen and carbohydrates. This oxygen is then released back into the atmosphere, which is why trees and rainforests are called the lungs of the planet. Without trees, many other plants still exist, but trees produce oxygen as a waste product on a much larger and more widespread level than most other plants, so the effect will definitely be seen. And, since we breathe oxygen, no trees producing oxygen will be no bueno.
Another way trees help support the environment, and an environmental detriment that will be noticed if there are no more trees, is the simple fact that roots hold soil together. When there is rain or other precipitation, the roots from trees hold the soil together, specifically the fertile topsoil that helps support more plant growth, so that the soil does not wash away with the rainwater. If the soil did wash away, as stated before, it would be the fertile soil that helps support other plant growth, so the washing away of this soil will cause whatever area it is in to not be able to support plant life. With no more tree roots holding the soil together, the area will most likely become a desert. Trees are also pretty good at cleaning contanimants out of the water so it is clean by the time it reaches our drinking water sources.
Also, there's the fact that trees are absolutely gorgeous and provide homes for countless birds, animals, and insects, so the depletion of trees will lead to the majority of these animals being virtually homeless. Think squirrels are sassy when they're hungry? Imagine the sassiness of hungry, HOMELESS, squirrels. Not to mention the habitats established by trees, mainly rainforests, are hugely responsible fir the biodiversity of the world. I think the Amazon holds around a fifth of the world's animals. And, in its direct effects on humans, trees hold many materials needed daily by most humans throughout the world, including fruits, medicine, and chocolate, so no trees will mean none of those.
As I'm writing this I keep thinking of more reasons, but I'm only 15 so I don't have any college courses or whatever to draw from, so if I missed some reasons, I missed some reasons.
