Being a Literature student it is ingrained in my mind that Life is a slap stick comedy held by the two strings-life and death.
I was well acquainted with the saying, ' Life is accidental but Death is inevitable'.
Mortality is the bitter truth of life. Yet I could never ever adjust to the harsh reality when I got the news of my Mother's death.
My Mother to me was God. She was my soul, my reason of existence. When she died I felt my feet sinking in quick sand. I just could not accept her death. All my learning, my philosophy of Death dissolved with the brine of my eyes.
One of my friends then repeatedly read to me Wordsworth's poem 'A slumber did my Spirit seal'. The poet too expressed his pain and inconsolable grief over losing Lucy without naming her.
As the memory of my Mother's lifeless body floated before my blurring eyes the lines 'She seemed a thing that could not feel
The touch of earthly years.' seemed the perfect description of her.
I sought solace in the last two lines of the poem , 'Rolled round in earth's diurnal course,
With rocks, and stones, and trees.'
No pain could touch my Mother now. Her mortal body had gone but her soul remained immortal and she would be there with me like the diurnal motion of the Earth.
