I would tell them both how wonderful they were and how much I loved them. My “parents “ were horrible but all of my grandparents were wonderful. We lived in Bradenton Florida when I was growing up. I spent my summers on my paternal Grandparents citrus farm in Weirsdale Florida, right below Ocala. I spent my days fishing in the lake they owned, eating what I caught for dinner and wishing I could stay there forever. My grandfather and I used to catch Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes in the grove and put them in burlap bags and take his Buick up to Silver Springs and sell them to Ross Allen’s Reptile Institute. Ross used them in his snake shows and milked them to make anti venom. My Maternal Grandparents lived in North Carolina and we lived with them when my “father” was hospitalized for two years. My grandfather took me swimming every day at the YMCA. He had to swim for exercise, he had Muscular Dystrophy and swimming wasn’t hard on him like other forms of exercise. I lost my paternal Grandmother first, when I was eleven. Then my paternal Grandfather who I am named after. Then my maternal Grandmother and Grandfather. I miss them every day.
