First take a potted plant keep in a dark room for 24 hrs, then test with methylated spirit and iodine

The presence of starch in leaves can be tested by an iodine test. Then we remove chlorophyll from the leaf by boiling it in alcohol. After that, add a few (or just 2) drops of iodine solution. If the colour changes blue-black, it contains starch.
