How would you test the presence of starch in leaves?

To test the presence of starch in leaves we firstly boil the leave and then we add iodine with it, it will change its color to blue black.

Presence of starch in the leaves is checked by iodine test.

● Iodine test -

  • Aqueous solution of iodine is brown in color.
  • To check presence of starch, drop of aqueous iodine solution is poured over the leaf.
  • If starch is present, leaf will turn into blue-black color.
  • If starch is absent, original color of iodine is retained.
