A variable in research is simply a symbol or a concept that can assume any one of a set of values (Davis & Cosenza, 1985). A Dependent Variable(DV) is the variable of primary interest to the researcher (Sekaran and Bougie, 2010), as he/she wants to improve it or explain it. DV is the variable which the researcher wants to study primarily or to find a solution for or to enhance it. An Independent Variable (IV) is one which affects or influences or contributes to the DV. The IV accounts for the variance of the DV. With each unit of increase in the IV there is an increase or decrease of the DV. The influence of IV on the DV may be positive or negative.
