My mother woke me up early on 26th January, our republic day.
I was very excited to go to school that day. I dressed in my best white uniform and boarded the school bus to reach school.
Our school was decorated for the Republic day celebrations. There were rangolis adorning the school ground.. Streamers made out of our Tricolor colors were running between the pillars. And the loud speakers were playing patriotic songs. Whole environment was charged with patriotism and pride.
Soon it was time for the flag hoisting. We stood in our assembly formations and that gave us a sense of discipline.
The chief guest was a very well known sports person, who was my idol. After he hoisted the flag, I attentively listened to his speech.
I was also the member of the school gymnastics team and we did a spectacular display of gymnastics which included a 5 level formation.
Later on few other children sung patriotic songs.
I was eagerly waiting for the prize distribution for the various sports competitions held in our school earlier in the month of January. I had won 3 gold medals in track and field events.
It was an honour to receive the medals from my Idol.
Later we were given packets of snacks which i feasted on with my friends.
The function was soon concluded and we all headed home to enjoy the rest of the day!!

This year 26th of January, the Republic Day, was on a Thursday. I got up early in the morning and left for School around 8:30 A.M. The Flag Hoisting was scheduled for 9:30 A.M.
We assembled in our main playground by 9:15 A.M. The Principal hoisted the National Flag at the appointed time. As the flag was unfurled, rose petals came down on the front rows of the assembly. Immediately, thereafter, we sang the National Anthem with a lot of pride and joy. After the Anthem, the Principal delivered a short speech in which he recounted the history of our republic, not forgetting to mention the martyrs who fought for our freedom from colonial rule.
After the main event, we gathered in the School Hall, where we were served snacks and soft drinks. Here we mingled with boys from the other classes in an environment of pride and friendliness, more the former as citizens of a free republic.
