Living organisms get their food from producers or autotrophs called Plants. They manufacture food from radiant energy of sun and make food for them.

Consumers like humans and animals which cannot make food by their own are dependent on plants for food.

When plants carry out photosynthesis to make food they need four things; chlorophyll, energy from the sun, carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil. Consumers are usually animals. Consumers cannot make their own food, so they have to eat other organisms.
