The intruder decided to impersonate Gerard because they were both of the same build and height. He then asked Gerard a few questions to know more about him. Then the intruder threatened to kill Gerrard if he did not stop acting smart. He was also preparing himself to look and dress like Gerrard apart from meeting the people Gerrard used to. In order to prepare himself to take up the identity of Gerrard the intruder forced him to talk about himself. He kept a watch on Gerrard for three months. He became familiar with the way he walked and talked. He got information about his neighbours and friends and the places he visited

The intruder observed Gerrard for some days and when he was familiar with the way he use to do stuff, he broke into his to murder him but before he would do that he asked Gerrard some questions about him to know him much better.
