Hudson worked two jobs last summer to start saving for a car. He mowed lawns during the day and then worked at a pizza place in the evenings. In one month he made a total of 1,400. If he earned $360 more at the pizza place than mowing the lawns, how much did he earn at each job.

Total $= $1400

x= mowing $

x+$360= pizza $

MOWING EARNINGS:

x + (x+360)= $1400

2x + 360= 1400

subtract 360 from both sides

2x= 1040

divide both sides

x= $520 mowing earnings

PIZZA EARNINGS:

substitute the x value in pizza expression

= x+$360

= 520+360

= $880 pizza earnings

CHECK:

x + (x+360)= $1400

$520 + ($520+$360)= $1400

$520 + $880= $1400

$1400= $1400

ANSWER:

He earned $520 mowing and he earned $880 at the pizza place.

Hope this helps! :)
