Heavy rain,for a long time,result in an increase in the level of water in rivers,lakes and ponds and the water spreads over a large near by land causing floods.
The major losses and damage of floods are:

.1)floods cause a huge extensive damage to crops.this may cause acute food shortage and deaths due to hunger.
2)floods cause serious injuries or death of domestic animal by drowning.
3)floods causes a huge damage to human life and property.many people die by drowning.their houses collapse and their belongings get lost in water.electricity ,water supply and communication networks also affect by the flood.
4)when flood water receds,there is a fear of spreading diseases like cholera,dysentery and many other.
5)rain also affect the animal living in the soil.animal living underground,such as earthworms snakes,come out in search of air as the soil gets covered with flood water.
6)floods wash away the top layer of the soil resulting in soil erosion.

so,floods affect the economy of a country due to diseases,starvation,loss and damage the life and property.
